Networking: internationalisation of the scientific cooperation in social and human sciences
Abstract: Call for application
PhD students and young researchers wishing to be invited to the seminar can apply. The application deadline is the 30 March 2007. It should contain a CV and a letter of motivation and be sent to both of these addresses: tclask@ulg.ac.be - anne.dumont@ulg.ac.be
This seminar proposes a critical analysis of the construction of a European field in social and human sciences. The aim is to understand the underlying socio-economic and cultural difficulties in such a transnational network. Based on case studies presented by experts the intervening elements in this process will be elucidated and their lessons applied to the European context.
Referring to Bourdieu’s theories, examples of bilateral, European and global cooperation will be looked at taking also into consideration the relations between the centre and the periphery. As discussed before during the seminar on the circulation of ideas and academics, the social and human sciences in developing countries integrate and transform the scientific production of the dominant centres, but are, nevertheless, less able to establish themselves into the global network due to persisting colonial attitudes. What are their strategies then to become recognised agents in this global field?
The seminar proposes to treat concretely the questions about successful strategies to be adopted in the European context, its possible agents and the means to foster this process of transnational networking. An expert will introduce every workshops with a presentation of a case study, which serve as background for the debates to follow. This proceeding should lead the participants to the establishment of a research agenda about the very process of transnational networking and scientific cooperation and to the determination of the different socio-economic sectors to be integrated more systematically into this network construction.
