Conference "For an European literary space"

« Literary field » Network - II - Translation and international circulation of ideas

Location : Bielefeld [ octobre 2005 (subject to change) ]

Direction : I. Gilcher-Holtey

Abstract : This colloquium aims at presenting case studies on literary fields in European countries by focusing on a crucial historical moment, namely the Sixties. This allows studying the given situation at this precise moment in all the nations being taken in consideration. It is a work of collective reflection on: The problematic of the writer in his “intellectual role”, the change of his role which followed the debate over politically committed literature and the commitment of writers in movements of protest in different European countries. We also ask ourselves about the variety of intellectual “types” competing with each other in the Sixties (the universal intellectual, the Marxist intellectual, the revolutionary intellectual and the specific intellectual) relying on case studies of European authors which will be chosen in accordance with the progressing works of the participants solicited by the members of the consortium pertaining to their competence and their specific fields of interest.
